SOLD. Pair of 18th century gilt pricket candlesticks
Pair of very attractive and rare 18th C carved giltwood pricket candlesticks.
Typical fluted shape with - unusually - crests and shields adorning a claw-foot base: The blue and white flag pertains to merchants in the Tuscany region; the gilt Fleur de Lis on blue ground with crown is reminiscent of several family crests of the period, notably the Medici in Florence. The plain red shield denotes wealth and status.
Faded gilt, knocks and scrapes commensurate with age. Would sit well on a dining table, chest of drawers or mantelpiece. Stand straight and are in good, unrestored condition.
We also have a slightly smaller (otherwise identical) pair from the same 18th century owner. See our other listings.
